Donald Edwin Ray, Sr. age 78 of Smithville passed away Monday morning, July 10, 2017 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville.  He was born February 21, 1939 to his parents, the late Thurman and Lula Lakey Ray.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marzell Barnes Ray; 4 brothers, Burnice Ray, George Ray, J.T. Ray, Clayton Ray; 3 sisters, Imogene Rogers, Lois and Ruth Ray.  Mr. Donald was retired from Century Electric/Magnatek and was a member of the New Union The Baptist Church.  Survivors include 2 sons, Eddie (Tapatha) Ray and Cary Ray both of Smithville; 3 grandchildren, Dusten (Brandi) O'Connor, Julie (Chris) Ponder, Ethan (Samara) Ray all of Smithville; 9 great-grandchildren, Madison, Logan, Ellie, Austin, K'sin, Kylah, Elizabeth, Gracelynn and Hannah; 1 sister, Nell Rankhorn of McMinnville and several nieces and nephews also survive.  Funeral services will be 2:PM Thursday, July 13, 2017 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Keith Sims officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday 10:AM until 8:PM and Thursday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
