Ellen Frances (Dolan) Ballard

Ellen Frances Dolan Ballard, 83, of Chelyan, WV passed away May 28, 2018 in Smithville, TN after a short illness.  She was born in Seth, WV January 4, 1935 to the late Opal (Nelson) Dolan & Sheridan Dolan.  She retired as legal secretary at Jackson & Kelly Law Firm in Charleston, WV.  She was a former President of Charleston Chapter of Professional Secretaries Association and was elected by them secretary of the year and was a certified Professional Secretary. 

Ellen was a graduate of East Bank High School and also attended WV Tech.  She previously attended Chelyan United Methodist Church and Chelyan First Baptist Church, and was currently attending Good Shepherd Catholic Chapel in East Bank, WV.  Through the West Virginia Alzheimer’s Association, she was much involved with and an advocate for those with Alzheimer’s disease.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents Opal & Sheridan Dolan; brothers, PFC Jimmy Dolan, USAF (1951) and Sheridan (Pat) Dolan; husbands, Richard Geoghegan; and Royce Ballard; her maternal (Nelson) and paternal (Nolan) grandparents, aunts & uncles.

She is survived by her much loved family, sons, David Geoghegan and wife, Tammy of Tenn., Timothy Geoghegan and wife, Debra of Arizona; stepsons, Paul Ballard of Maine, and Michael Ballard and wife,  Johanna of New Mexico, Kristine and Sean Geoghegan of Arizona, and Jimmy, Jackie, and Joshua Ballard of Texas.

The service will be held 1:00 pm Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Good Shepherd Catholic Chapel in East Bank, WV the Father Dominik Baok officiating. Burial will follow the service at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

In lieu of flowers, Ellen requested that contributions be made to the WV Alzheimer’s Association, 1601 2nd Ave., Charleston, WV 25387.  Contributions should be made in memory of Royce L. Ballard.
