Gene Cook age 95 of Smithville passed away at his residence Wednesday, January 14,2026. He was born January 1, 1931, to his parents the late Clay and Callie Murphy Cook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dean Cook; two sisters, Murphy Ann Miller and Jo Dean Dutton. Mr. Cook was a Baptist and affiliated with Calvary Baptist Church, served in Korea in the United States Army, and worked at the garment factory. He is survived by three children, Ronnie (Debbie) Cook of Piney Flatts, Tn, Cathy (Dwain) Snow of Smithville, Tina (David) Gash of Smithville; grandchildren, Jacob (Katie) Cook, Johnathan (Kari) Cook, Jay (Victoria) Cook, Eric (Cindy) Snow, Andy (Laura) Snow, Caleb (Makenzy) Gash, Callie (Caleb) Cantrell,; great-grandchildren, Paxton, Clara, Emery, Levi, Topher, Trey, Brody, Addy, Ansley, Allie, Callie, Oliver, Ruby, Eleanor and Britton; three sisters, Rose Davis of Liberty, Beatrice Laperouse of Arizona, Wilma (Bob) Mykyleby of Smithville; three brothers, Eddie Cook of Smithville, Jim (Helen) Cook of Liberty, Doug (Janie) Cook of Smithville; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Graveside services and burial will be held 2 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at DeKalb Cemetery with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. There will not be any visitation or services held at the funeral home. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for the service. The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to Teresa, Lisa, Rebecca, Michelle, Mary, Carla, Gentiva Hospice and Adoration Home Health for the love and care shown to Mr. Cook throughout his sickness. In addition to flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Calvary Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Gene. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Cook family.
