James T. Smith

James T. Smith, age 90 was born September 2, 1934 in Leeville, TN and departed this life on Saturday afternoon, December 14, 2024 at NHC HealthCare in Smithville.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Jewell Smith; son, Jesse Scott Smith; parents, James Webb Smith and Johnnie Fisher Sloan Smith; brother, Robert Sloan Smith, Edwin Smith and Albert Smith; sisters, Alice Kelley Little, Mayme Wilson, Naomie Holland, Nancy McMillan and Mary Hagan.  James was a member of the Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church and served in the US Army Reserve.  He worked at several roof truss companies.  He retired from Indian Mound boys home as the Agriculture Teacher.  He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Kelley Smith Garrett and her husband, Scott of Cookeville; grandchildren, Austin Scott Garrett and wife, Amber of Murfreesboro; Sloane Garrett Hill and husband, Hayden of Cookeville and Jeremy Scott Smith of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Mary Kendall Garrett, Hallee Smith, Tiffany Smith and Cheyenne Smith; sister, Martha Bone and her husband, Stratton of Lebanon; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be 11:AM Friday, December 20, 2024 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Larry Green officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.  Visitation with the family will be Thursday 4:PM until 7:PM and Friday 9:AM until the time of the service at 11:AM.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in memory Mr. Smith.  DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Smith family.
