Jimmy Allen Atnip age 74 of Cookeville and a native of Smithville, passed away Tuesday morning July 29, 2025 at his residence. He was born July 8, 1951 to his parents, the late Willie Allen Atnip, Jr and Martha Myrie Hale Atnip. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Jean Cantrell and Darlene Stanley. Jimmy was a Freewill Baptist and worked as a Lab Courier for many years and then a factory worker before his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Jeanine Atnip of Cookeville; children, Jamie (Mark) Goodson of Georgia, Jennifer White of Georgia, Jimmy Allen (Stephanie) Atnip, II of Smithville; 2 step-children, Paul Kirby of Minnesota and Tarina (Trent) Burgess of Illinois; grandchildren, Renny (Chris) Godfrey, John Mason, Matthew White, Savanah White, Sarah White, Myrie (Quentin) Hale, Tyler, Emma and Logan Kirby, Easton Burgess and Zachary (Victoria) Lane; 1 great-grandson, Lucas Lane; three sisters, Janie (PI) Hale of Liberty, Janice Walker of Smithville and Darnell (Wayne) Crook of Smithville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 1 PM Friday, August 1, 2025 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will follow in Mt. Holly Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 10 AM until the time of the service at 1 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Atnip family.
