John Louis DeVries, aged 90, fell asleep in death on June 9, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida DeVries, and siblings, Robert and Lucille, as well as a daughter, Dawn, and granddaughter, Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Minta, and children, John, Randall (Sherry), Eric (Melonie) and Jenny (Glenn). Also survived by grandchildren, Codie, Murfie, Seth (Megan), Sophie, Jude, Christopher and Emily, as well as great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. John was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1970 and had a firm belief in the resurrection of the dead back to life on a paradise earth. He is safe in God’s memory until the fulfillment of the scripture at Hosea 13:14: “From the power of the Grave I will redeem them; From death I will recover them.” His family and friends look forward to that happy event. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 13, at 2 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 981 E. Broad St, Smithville. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the DeVries family.
