Roy Gayle Mathis age 66 of Murfreesboro, passed away Thursday November 14, 2024 at St. Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro. He was born April 10, 1958 to his parents, the late Floyd and Nancy Bain Mathis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Freddy Tidwell, Bobby Mathis, Landon Mathis, Larry Mathis, Julus Lee Mathis, Timothy Mathis, Lanny Mathis; sisters, Margie Gunter, Helen Fults and Patricia Mathis; sister-in-law, Pamela Mathis. He worked for DeKalb County, City of Smithville, was a brick layer and a mechanic. He attended the Open Word Tabernacle. Mr. Mathis is survived by his baby, Wanda Underwood of Murfreesboro and her children and grandchildren, whom he loved as his own; siblings, Jimmy Mathis of Murfreesboro, James (Marie) Tidwell of Smithville, George (Debbie) Mathis of Shelbyville, Mikey Mathis of Murfreesboro, Janice Barrett of Tullahoma and Rosetta (Floyd) Brown of Murfreesboro; brother-in-law, Jimmy Barrett; several nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Due to the expected colder weather, the Service will be at 1:PM Thursday, November 21, 2024 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Darren Kinzer officiating and burial to follow at Center Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home for the service at 1:PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Mathis family.
