Wanda Nell Gard of Smithville, age 90, passed away at her residence Thursday September28, 2023. She was born September 11, 1933, to her parents the late Edward H. and Neva Mae Cowan Teachman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Darwin Doyle Gard; 7 brothers, Edward, Lawrence, George, Blain, Harold, Carl and Doug; 2 sisters, Genev and Lora Jane. Ms. Gard was a member of Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Chruch, member of Ladies Who Lunch, Women on Missions, over 70 years in the Eastern Star and very active with the Senior Center and a Homemaker. She is survived by daughters, Denise (Rick) Holcomb, Karla (Bo) Warrick, Michele (Pete) Roller all of Smithville; son, Bill (Susan) Gard of Murfreesboro; 10 grandchildren, Sarah (Joe) Sledge, Ashlee (Michael) Wiley, Rachel Holcomb (Mitchell), Samantha (Michael) Rohling, Johnna Roller (Brandon), Kaitlyn, Nathan (Brittney) Gard, Ben (Traci) Gard, Brooke (David) Nickens, Bryce (Ashley) Gard; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Twylah (Bob) Alameda, Edrie Zwiers; sister-in-law, Barbara Teachman; host of nieces and nephews also survive. The family has honored Ms. Gard request to be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held Monday, October 16, 2023, at 6:00PM at Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Pack and Bro. Bill Robetson officiating. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
