Obituary

Herbie Davenport age 69, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He was born July 14, 1954 to his mother, the late Callie Mae Kirby. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by mother-in-law, Hassie Dell Hullett, father-in-law, C. C. Hullett; sister-in-law, Mary Inita Hendershott. Herbie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a retired Stg. Army Military Service Member. He was actively deployed in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the Middle East. He retired and was honorably discharged after21 years of service. He worked for Star Mfg. in Smithville after many years after retirement. Herbie spent his time with his wife and children enjoying more time at the ballfields with his grandchildren. Many around the ballfields just referred to him as grandpa. He loved his grandchildren deeply and had recently enjoyed another love as grandpa by the addition of two great-grandchildren. If time had permitted, he would have been at those ballfields' again, happily cheering them on at each game. Herbie was blessed with so many friends. Herbie will dearly be missed by all who knew him. In recent years, he has befriended many new neighbors who will miss stopping in to chat and grab some great homegrown veggies from the gardens he and his wife enjoyed sharing with all who came around. Many friends would spend hours a day chatting on the pouch or his favorite place at the barn. Herbie is survived by his wife Kathie Davenport of Smithville; daughter, Danyelle (Shawn) Adcock of Smithville; sons, Cody Davenport of Smithville, Josh Turner of Red Rock, TN; grandchildren, Taylor Brooke (Caleb) Bain of Cookeville, Tyler Monette (Jasmine Yost) of Smithville, and Angelina Davenport of Smithville; great-grandbabies, Brock Andrew Bain of Cookeville, and Damon Michel Monette of Smithville; sister, Donna (Randy) Ozment of Watertown; sister-in-law, Thelma Hullett Neal of Lebanon; brothers-in-law, Charles Nelson Hullett of Smithville, and Ralph Hullet of Ind.; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. A visitation will be held Thursday August 24, 2023 12:00 Noon till 2:00PM at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.  Military Honors will be held immediately following the visitation at 2:PM by the Veterans Honor Guard.   DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
