William "Wink" Brown Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of William "Wink" Brown on  Thursday, September 17, 2026, at his residence in Smithville, Tennessee.

Wink's accomplishments throughout his life could fill the pages of a book. What follows is just a glimpse of a life well lived and a legacy of service to others.

Wink began his distinguished career in public service with the Williamson County Rescue Squad in 1974. In 1983, he was elected Chief, a position he proudly held until 1986.

In 1987, Wink became the founding Chief of the Arrington Fire Department, serving in that role until 1998. He later served as a Commissioner with the State of Tennessee Commission on Firefighting Personnel Standards and Education. During his career, he also served as President of the Tennessee Association of Fire Instructors, President of the Williamson County Fire Chiefs Association, and Treasurer of the Tennessee Fire Chiefs Association.

Wink dedicated more than 28 years of service to the Smithville Fire Department, where he devoted countless hours to ensuring the department remained well trained, properly equipped, and prepared to serve the residents of the community.

Known and respected throughout the country, Wink built a successful career in sales with Pierce Fire Trucks. He was never satisfied with simply selling a fire truck. Instead, he took the time to build lasting friendships with his customers and ensured they received the training, support, and resources needed to successfully place their apparatus into service.

Wink was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Brown Jr. and Helen Brown, and by his brother, Michael Brown.

He is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 33 years, Kiki Brown; his mother-in-law, Mary Gorghis; his brother-in-law, George Gorghis (Rene); Carol and John Rhea; Nancy and Mike Massengill; his nieces, Jenna Webb, Jessica Logan, and Anna Gorghis; and his nephew, David Massengill.

Wink will be deeply missed by the many friends and neighbors in the Four Seasons community who were fortunate enough to know him and call him a friend.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the countless friends who stepped forward during Wink and Kiki's time of need, providing meals, transportation to appointments, and unwavering support in so many ways. The family also wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the Smithville Fire Department for its assistance and support during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m.  A graveside service and burial with firefighter honors will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Williamson Memorial Gardens in Franklin, Tennessee.
