I was your only grandson and you took care of me when my father had visitation and was too busy to be bothered by me. You loved your gospel bluegrass music and would play it loudly and joyously, complete with hand clapping on a boom box Sunday mornings in the kitchen. Now, I did not like that music at all and have since associated the word “gospel” with that music so much so that if I go to church and hear the pastor say “Let us turn to the gospel” I immediately stand and say “I hate the gospel!” Thanks, Granny, you have made Mom make some very generous donations to churches’ offerings! Glad you remembered the Lighthouse Children’s Camp but wished you would have remembered the Autism Society and/or me in some way but I still love you and pray you get the reward you deserve.

My Aunt Helen was the glue for the Cantrell Family. She is the last of my Dad's (Lee Harmon Cantrell) siblings and spouses--the last of a generation so to speak. I will miss her so much as will so many of her other nieces and nephews. Our consolation is that we expect to see her again in Eternity. Peace be with her children (my first cousins), Larry, Danny, and Steve Roller and their families.

If I live to be 100 or if I live 100 lifetimes, I will never know anyone who touched my soul as you did. Your life had purpose and can best be summed in these brief words....

Not, How Did She Die, But How Did She Live?
Not what did she gain, but what did she give?
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a woman as a woman, regardless of birth.
Not, what was her church, nor what was her creed?
But had she befriended those really in need?
Was she ever ready, with word of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many were sorry when she passed away.

I will celebrate your life until we meet again. Enjoy your journey...
