Robert E. "Gene" Cantrell Obituary

Robert E. "Gene" Cantrell age 86 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday night, October 23, 2018 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was born June 24, 1932 to his parents, the late Lee Jackson and Stella Taylor Cantrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Claxton Cantrell. Gene was a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church and a nurseryman, farmer and retired factory worker. He is survived by 2 nephews, Boyd (Brenda) Cantrell of Smithville and Claxton (Mary) Cantrell, Jr. of Peoria, IL; 2 great-nephews, Aaron (Sabrina) Cantrell and Collin (Summer) Cantrell; 2 great-great-nephews, Patrick and Knox Cantrell and 1 great-great-niece, McKenzie Cantrell and best friend, Reva Judkins. Funeral services will be 2:PM Sunday, October 28, 2018 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Bill Robertson and Joel Wood officiating and burial will follow in Cantrell Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday 3:PM until 8:PM and Sunday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church, in memory of Gene. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
